Hideo Kojima learned in a Zoom call that Sony was stepping away from Physint. Speaking for the first time since the project ended, he describes the moment as a shock and says nothing could have prepared him for the decision to walk away. In the same conversation he says he still loves Sony and PlayStation.

What we know

The news did not arrive in a room. It arrived in a video call. Kojima says Sony's decision caught him unprepared, and his own wording leaves little room: nothing could have prepared him for a partner stepping away from the project.

IGN conducted the interview. It is the first time Kojima has spoken publicly since PlayStation dropped Physint, and he uses it to lay out what happened between him and Sony.

Even so, he does not turn on his former partner. Kojima states plainly that his affection for Sony and PlayStation remains. Both things sit side by side: the shock of the exit and his stance toward the company that made the call.

Why it matters

Physint was built as a Kojima Productions project with PlayStation. Without Sony, it loses the partner that was meant to carry it. For players the practical result is simple: there is no Physint to wait for on a PlayStation console.

The delivery method is part of the story. A decision of this size travelled through a video call, and that is the detail Kojima anchors his account to. For a project that started with a stage announcement, the ending is strikingly quiet.

What Kojima does not do carries as much weight. He had a platform to fight the split in public and did not use it. He separates the decision from the company instead. Whether that reflects courtesy, an ongoing relationship elsewhere, or simply no appetite for a fight, his comments do not say.

What is open

The reports do not say when the Zoom call took place or who was on it. Sony's own reasoning is missing as well: Kojima's account does not explain why the company stepped away. It is also unclear what happens to the work already done, whether Kojima Productions will continue the project with another partner, and whether the Physint name would survive that move.
