After the Warner deal, HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+ become one service

Three subscriptions that are sold separately today are set to merge into one, which changes the math for anyone paying for more than one of them.

HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+ are set to merge into a single streaming service. The move follows Paramount's takeover of Warner, which is now official. Ars Technica reported the plan in October 2026, and Engadget and Germany's Tagesschau also covered the deal.

Was bekannt ist

Paramount is taking over Warner. Tagesschau covers the acquisition in its business section.

According to Ars Technica, three services will unify into one:

  • HBO Max
  • Paramount+
  • Discovery+

Engadget names Skydance as the company that will combine HBO Max and Paramount+ into one streaming service. Its headline does not mention Discovery+.

The immediate change is structural. Brands that were marketed as separate apps with separate subscriptions are meant to sit under one roof.

Einordnung

If you pay for two or three of these services today, a merger at least simplifies things: one account, one app, one bill. Whether it also lowers the total depends on the price of the new service. None of the reports give one.

The picture is different for people who subscribe to just one of the three. A bigger catalog in a single plan could mean paying for shows and films they chose not to buy before. A price increase is not confirmed. It is still the question most households will judge the new service by.

For the streaming market, the deal means two major studios pool their libraries. Shoppers comparing subscriptions will see one provider where there used to be three separate offers. That leaves fewer services to choose from and gives more weight to the one that remains.

There is nothing you need to do yet. Existing subscriptions continue until the new owner explains how the switch will work.

Was offen ist

The price, name and launch date of the combined service are not confirmed, and neither is regional availability or what happens to existing subscriptions. The reports also differ in scope: Ars Technica includes Discovery+ in the merger, while Engadget's headline names only HBO Max and Paramount+.
