Apple reportedly built smart home devices with LG for its Home Hub

Apple apparently isn't building its smart home alone. Bringing in a hardware partner shows how the company plans the launch.

Apple reportedly teamed up with LG to build the first devices for its smart home push. The reports name a doorbell, a door lock, a thermostat and cameras. All four are meant to work with Apple's planned Home Hub. MacRumors reported it first on October 6, 2026. The Verge, Engadget and WinFuture followed.

The reports list four device types:

  • Doorbell
  • Door lock
  • Thermostat
  • Cameras

Each one is tied to the Home Hub, the device Apple plans to use as the control center of the connected home. The reports describe LG as Apple's hardware partner. They don't say how the two companies split the engineering, design or manufacturing.

Nothing is official yet. The coverage includes no statement from Apple or LG. The Verge calls the story a rumor. Engadget is just as careful and says Apple "reportedly" worked with LG.

Einordnung

The partnership matters more than the product list. Apple isn't building a full lineup of home devices for the launch by itself. It is bringing in a partner instead. That suggests the Home Hub is the core of the plan, and the devices around it are there to support it.

The choice of products fits that reading. Doorbells, locks, thermostats and cameras get mounted on doors and walls, and they often stay put for years. A hub with none of them would have little to control on day one. If a large manufacturer ships compatible devices at the same time, that gap closes.

Buyers would benefit too. Someone who picks up the Home Hub wouldn't have to put together a front door and heating setup from several third-party brands. Apple, for its part, wouldn't have to design hardware from scratch in every one of these categories. The brand on the box is a separate question. Apple, LG or both would each send a different signal about how much Apple wants to own the smart home as its own product.

Until either company confirms the deal, this is a reading of the reports. Still, four outlets tell the same story, and it shows where the launch could be heading.

The reports don't give names, prices or release dates for the devices. They also don't say when the Home Hub will launch or whether the LG devices will ship at the same time. Apple and LG haven't commented.
